Joshua Flores Eleven Year old Wonder!

Joshua Flores

I‘ve had my musical eye on Joshua Flores for some time now but recently spent an hour or so on Joshua’s YouTube Site. I was simply taken back with his beautiful treble voice and extremely diversified singing styles.  He easily mastered everything, Gospel, Country, Pop and even Mariachi which he sang for the first time in Spanish for his Great Grandmothers 100th birthday.  I then trained my eyes on his exceptional talent  for playing the guitar and piano.  I thought to myself, is there anything that this youngster can’t do?  I immediately contacted his dad Nick, who shared the following with me and I wanted to share this with you just as I received it from him.

“Joshua was born on September 13, which is my birthday, too.  He started singing at two years old.  I was in the middle of recording a CD and I had written a song called, “Piece of My Heart”.  I had written it for Joshua and would sing it to him a lot. Then he started to sing it too.  So, when I was recording it, I also recorded a version of Joshua singing the song with me.  He was about 2 ½ years old and he could already sing on pitch and memorize words.  I knew then that he was going to be a singer.”

Joshua’ dad told me; from that time until he was eight years old he would sing around the house and for friends and family.  Joshua’s earliest musical influences were N’Sync and Michael Jackson.  Then as he grew older he started enjoying Maroon 5 and Justin Timberlake, followed by Jonas Brothers, Jessie McCartney and some of Justin Bieber’s music.  While some kids try to do covers on Justin Bieber’s songs they often can’t pull it off!  But I actually like this remix better than the original.  Move over JB you have serious competition waiting in the wings!

When Joshua was only Eight years old he was awarded a solo at church for his First Communion and that’s when it all began.  He started singing the National Anthem for different events in and around their city.  He gradually started performing for larger events like the C.C. Fire Expo, Bayfest, and Best of the Best.

When Joshua was 10 years old, the American Boychoir visited Corpus Christi for a performance.  After the concert, they held open tryouts and Joshua auditioned.  Joshua’s dad explains what happened next.

Joshua in Room“Joshua did very well in the audition, and someone from the choir called us two days later.  They invited us to look at the school and see if Joshua would be interested in going there in the fall.  We went to look at the school and Joshua seemed to like it, however the tuition was about $17,000 for one year.  We did many fund raisers and Joshua recorded a CD of 5 songs, two in which he wrote, and sold over 1,500 copies.  We were able to raise about $15,000, but I was going to quit my two jobs and move with him.  Well, we ended up just paying for the first semester and the rest of the money was for us to move everything from Corpus Christi, TX. to Princeton, N.J.    My wife stayed in Texas and we rented out our house and she went to live with her parents so, we could afford for Joshua and I to live in New Jersey until I found employment.  Needless to say, it was difficult to find a good job over there where I could take Joshua to school and pick him up.  He went to school for 10 hours a day and I was only able to find a part-time job.  When the first semester was over we planned to go back home because I was offered my old job back and we were struggling financially, so we went back to Texas.  Joshua was able to do some great things there.  The choir performed with the New York Philharmonic at the Lincoln Center in New York and Joshua sang at Princeton University.  The experience was still a very good one for Joshua but we were disappointed that we could not afford for him to stay for the whole year.”

When Joshua and his Dad arrived back in Texas, Joshua continued to be asked to perform for different functions and events.  Joshua had co-written a couple of the songs on his CD and he and dad were still continuing to write new songs.

“You’re My Mom”

I already mentioned in the beginning of this article that, Joshua has published many videos on YouTube and he also has a MySpace Page.  You can also find Joshua on Reverb Nation , Jango Free Music Internet Radio and you won’t want to miss visiting his Domain Site!

Joshua Parents were contacted about Joshua performing for a Nashville T.V. show featuring young talent.  This led to Joshua singing on a T.V. program called the Nashville Spotlight.

Over the past few months, Joshua has started recording some new music.  This past week, he entered a contest for a National radio show called The Kidd Kraddick show.  They were auditioning for kids under 17 to be in a band, attend a week long “Rock Camp”, and open for a bigger band.  Joshua made it to the live audition out of 400 applicants which was narrowed down to 40.  Kidd Kraddick was so impressed by Joshua that he featured him on his show the next morning.

Joshua still wants to record a full CD and has an independent Label interested in him. However, they are trying to find an investor or sponsor to help them finish their project.

If you would be interested in helping Joshua with this project or if you have an event that you would like Joshua to perform for,

  1. I am noticing a big hype online about Joshua and honestly he truly deserves it and more…In additional I once again see myself what a huge impact Michael Jackson had on a generations of young singers from all over the world – Joshua, Sam,Alexander and many many others. I hope that the young talents now rising will inspire on their own other people and singers. Itnetersting story about Joshua and the the American Boychoir – trough I found it rather sad that their school does not have sponsors to support the kid. When I was attending high school in the US almost all my tuition was paid by the school – and that left me with impression that most schools in the US will be like that . ( Truth is I am only familiar with my school and with one state in the US ).

Good luck on your way to stardom Joshua
