Young Male Artists | RIVENMASTER ARCHIVES 2009-2016

Life is full of tragic and touching stories. Peter and Steven Gait – the Scottish twin singers better known as the Gaitway Brothers – have just turned 15-years-old. At this time of year, we often find ourselves looking back with amazement at how much we have achieved and with nostalgia at how much has changed.

It has been my privilege to work with the boys since they were 10-years-old and to share, not only in their musical journey, but also in that dangerous adventure that every adolescent boy must take: their journey to manhood. Â

Though every boy must rise to this challenge, it cannot be overstated how difficult if can be. The Gaitway Brothers are no stranger to tragedy and perhaps this gives some of their music it’s unique pathos which fans often describe. I asked Steven and Peter to share personally a little about themselves:

Steven

“I was born in Scotland and I live Helensburgh. A lot of our songs areÂ old traditional music and it’s written by Matthew or people we work with.Â

A big struggle for me was my Dad passed away when I was 9. My Papa and Nana give me the strength to persevere because they are really supportive of me.Â

My advice to other young people trying to succeed in music is try hard, don’t give up don’t listen to all the people that make fun of you or say you canâ€™t do it.Â

Peter

“I was born in the Vale of Leven in Alexandria which is in in Scotland and I live in Helensburgh. My biggest musical inspiration isÂ Matthew Todd, our manager and our friend.

We sing lots of traditional Scottish music and have other songs about God. Some of the songs we have sung are written by Matthew Todd and we do covers of other songs like ‘Human’ by the Killers.

Our Dad passed away when we were 9. It was hard and was a dark time for me.Â My Nana and Papa help me carry on because they encourage me and are very supportive, and my Mum as well.

My ambition is to learn Japanese and to achieve higher in all the subjects I choose at school and advance higher in some too.Â I want to go to university and go to Japan and go to the PokÃ©mon store and theme park.

My advice to other young people would be to try as hard as possible, believe in yourself and stick to it and practice.

“My music is created to reach the soul of those who hear it”Â Â Â Â Â Theo Constantin

Romania and its remarkable people have a special place in my heart. Torchlight Talent is privileged to feature young artists from all over the world, but we areÂ especially delighted to introduce to you today the rising Romanian star, Theodor Constantin.Â

Theo wasÂ born in Bucharest, the Romanian capital, in 2005 where he still lives with his family. His musical journey beganÂ in the choir of the Ecumenical Institute of Sacred Music in Bucharest where he quickly became a soloist and started to study piano at the age of five. As a soloist of the choir, Theo realised that solo singing gave him the opportunity he craved for self-expression and communication with his audiences. So, at just 7 years old he started studyingÂ pop music at the Academy of Fine Arts and today he is a student at the Art School of Bucharest where he studies solo singing and performing.

I asked Theo to tell me a little about his greatest musical influences:

“When Michael Jackson died, in 2009, I was almost 5 years old. In Romania, it was on all the radio stations and all the TV channels. His music was everywhere. This event was a significant moment in my life, I asked my parents for Michaelâ€™s music. I have studied him – from the man to the artist – and it was from watching him that I learned my first lessons in solo singing.

The idea that I could express what I was singing best through solo performance was already deep inside me. Michael Jackson confirmed that for me. Through his music, I learned English – actually, I learned to speak English, without understanding what I was saying – by learning his famous songs. Then I listened to rock music, rock ballads. They had something special. They had a particular feeling.”

Theo has his own music producer and together theyÂ try to create music and videos to express the messages that Theo wants to communicate. His repertoire consists of both covers and his own original songs. One of the wonderful things about Theo’s music and videos is that they are unapologetically from his own perspective and expressing the joys and struggles which he experiences as a 10-year-old boy. He performs with such confidence and energy, you might expect Theo to be very outgoing and extraverted, but in truth he is a quiet and thoughtful boy for which music is his preferred method of communication. Â

“Each track has its own history. It is inspired by real life. I am quite shy and usually donâ€™t talk too much and that is why I think my music speaks for me. For example, my latest single, ‘I’ll be your hero’Â has an underlying social message that I want to send to all those who can stretch out a hand to help the children who, unfortunately, do not have a family, a house or a toy. They would love it to happen. Thatâ€™s why they need a hero in their life, a normal person who isÂ willing to stretch out that saving hand toward them. My music is positive, though certain parts awaken feelings of sadness. It always expresses truth and all the tracks have a happy ending.”
