Every now and then I stumble upon a group of youngsters that just seem to capture my attention. It’s either something in their singing talent, their presentation or performances, or just the simple fact that they possess charisma that makes me take a second look.
When I search for talent in youngsters I am not always looking for the best, most polished, most skilled or choreographed act. Sometimes I’m searching for that hidden factor that you just can’t describe with words. Maybe it’s that same X FACTOR that Simon Cowell is searching for.
Well, whatever you want to call “ITâ€â€™, these boys have “ITâ€!
Uher Brothers features 15 year old triplet brothers – Tyler, Scott, and Dustin. The boys will be entering a new chapter in their lives this fall as they enter high school. They have participated in the school choir since third grade and did their first performance together as a group at the Spring Choral concert at school by singing “Lean On Me†acappella.
Even though they were just discovering their ability to sing together, they demonstrated a certain charm that just plain made you feel good. In fact this first clip really made me smile at the end due to their comedic charm and special natural flare.  I said to myself, I have to see more!
As I went a little further I found another performance they did in school. I was really quite amazed with their backup harmony in this second clip. However, it was their showmanship that outweighed everything else. Each of their personalities shined through as they proudly performed their special choreographed number. But it was the song they chose that really surprised me, being it was a song written fourteen years before they were even born. Billy Joel’s “Longest Timeâ€.
“The Uher Brothers are the next Jonas Brothers. Mark it down!†Ryan Terrell
Here is An Article written by Ryan Terrell on Homer Horizon.com  that talks more about this cover song by the boys!
Since that first performance things have progressed rapidly for the boys. They captured first place in the duo/trio category at the Illinois Music Association’s statewide competition in May of both 2010 and 2011. Additionally, Tyler was awarded the first place trophy for his solo performances in the same competition for both years.
Last summer, the guys performed a couple songs at a local town festival and then this past summer, they were the opening act for their hometown’s anniversary festival. Tyler does most of the lead vocals, with Scott and Dustin backing him up. However, you will occasionally see Scott and Dustin in a lead vocal role with Tyler as back-up. Dustin has become quite an accomplished musician as well, often accompanying his brothers on guitar and ukulele. Although Scott has dabbled a bit with the guitar, he has now moved onto drums and developed quite a liking for them!  Tyler continues to dabble a bit into piano and guitar but really likes vocals the best.
As for vocals, Tyler has lined up some additional vocal accomplishments. He was awarded the title of Homewood Idol, Jr. in July of 2010. He sang “She Will be Loved†by Maroon 5 to get him to the finals, and then returned the following day to perform “Sunday Morning†by Maroon 5 to capture the title. He was happy to be asked to return this summer to open for this year’s competition and sang “U Smile†by Justin Bieber for the crowd. He was also chosen as one of twenty finalists in November of 2010 for a local idol competition ran by a well known local theater. It was quite an experience, and Tyler got to see many famous well known performing artists’ autographs on the walls backstage and all around the halls. He hopes to enter this same competition this year. In April of this year, Tyler competed against over 200 others for one of four fast forward audition passes for the X Factor. He was chosen as one of twelve finalists and had the opportunity to compete live as a finalist on FOX TV in Chicago.  His schoolmates were even allowed to watch the competition live on TV and were given the opportunity to text in their vote for him! This brought much excitement to his school that day! See Article written by Melissa R. Riske on Triblocal.com
Although Tyler ultimately didn’t win one of those four fast forward passes, this was an experience he will always remember. He was also quite honored to be asked to sing at his class’ graduation ceremony in June – he sang “On Eagle’s Wings.â€
The Uher Brothers are no strangers to the theater stage. They have all performed on stage since fourth grade in their school’s Spring Play, starting out in chorus roles and with Tyler getting a small role in fourth grade as Tom in “Oklahoma.â€Â As they each grew, so did the roles they played. Some of the more interesting roles the boys have played were: Tyler as the Cheshire Cat in “Alice in Wonderland†in sixth grade – his brothers both played Rock Lobsters that year. Seventh grade’s play was “Annie,†featuring Tyler as the smooth character, Rooster, along with Dustin playing the role as the very respectable head butler, Drake. Eighth grade’s play was “Guys N Dolls, Jr.†with all three Uher brothers being awarded main roles: Scott as the gambling Nathan Detroit – he played opposite his brother, Dustin, who played the smooth ladies’ man, Sky Masterson – they made quite a pair! And, let’s not forget Tyler, who captured yet another main role in this same performance – he was the big voice that we all remember from “Guys N Dolls†– he “rocked the boat†as Nicely Johnson!
All three of the boys are looking forward to trying out for the theater productions at their new high school.
The Uher Brothers have played travel baseball since they were eight years old, with Tyler also playing travel basketball for a number of years. He decided to join his brothers this past year so they could play basketball on the same team. Their school’s basketball team was quite successful, and all three boys were on that team. They won two consecutive championships followed by a second place finish this past season. This year, Tyler and Dustin are revisiting a sport from their past – soccer. Scott hopes to continue playing golf. All three boys plan to try out for various sports at their new high school.
The brothers were each inducted into the National Junior Honor Society in eighth grade, with Dustin being elected to serve as the group’s Vice President. They all served as peer tutors at their former school for the last two years to try to help some of the younger children who were struggling in various subjects.
As for the future, the boys would love to continue performing together. They hope that through their performances they can bring happiness to people and be a positive influence in the world. Their education is very important to them, and they hope to find a good balance with doing well in school and still performing.
I asked the boys to make a short little self introductory video-log. Â I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. These guys are not only a joy to watch perform on stage, but have a great sense of humor and wonderful personalities.
As I discovered more about these boys, I realized that what I experienced by viewing their first video ran much deeper than what I was hearing, watching or seeing. Not only are these boys extremely talented, but they possess that special quality that you can’t describe in words……..It’s that “X†Factor that is going to keep me following this very special band of brothers known as “The Uher Brothers”.
